The cassava industry has already entered this year about US $ 36 million in the small peasant farm, adding the sales made to the starch industries and the markets for fresh consumption, which are US $ 11.4 million and US $ 24, 18 million respectively, according to data from the Capama union and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG).
So far this year, cassava producers have already sold around 140,000 tons of the root to the country’s starch industries, with an average price of G. 550 per kilogram, which represents a total of about G. 77,000 million, This figure is US $ 11.4 million, according to the director of the Paraguayan Chamber of Starches and Cassava (Capama), Hans Theodor Regier. He explained that this amount was what the different industrial plants paid globally to the producers of this item to date. He indicated that the average price of this item, at the industry level in Paraguay, is 70% higher compared to the historical average.
“This high price situation is related to the lack of raw material, which was mainly caused by last year’s drought. The yields per hectare were consequently much lower than last year, ”commented the industrialist.
He added that the industry he represents, Codipsa, exported relatively large volumes to the United States this year. “The sale of cassava starch in the region is very low, but volumes to North America increased considerably. It is expected to continue until the end of the year with stable production and sales volumes and an upward trend compared to last year ”, he highlighted.
